GAIN Statement on Oil Tanker Attacks

Good morning –

Earlier today two oil tankers were reportedly attacked near the entrance to the Persian Gulf.

If reports are true, this is a deplorable act of violence that further demonstrates the need for continued U.S. energy development.

Following is a statement from the GAIN Coalition that you can source to me, Craig Stevens, spokesperson for the coalition.  Craig is also a former senior advisor to Energy Secretary Sam Bodman.

“If the reports of attacks on these oil tankers are true, it is a deplorable act of violence.  Our thoughts are with the crews of these vessels and we hope that they are safe.  Attacks like these further demonstrate the need for U.S. energy growth and dominance.  Through technology and streamlined regulations, the United States has become a leader in the production of oil and natural gas products.  This increased production allows the U.S. to play a significant role in mitigating potential supply disruptions to the global energy market –ensuring U.S. consumers and our nation’s allies have access to the energy they need to survive and thrive.  To support increased production, our nation also needs to build additional midstream capacity so that energy products here in the U.S. can be refined and ultimately go to market.”
