GAIN Coalition Applauds Canadian Government’s Decision to Move Forward with Trans Mountain Pipeline

Earlier today, the Canadian government approved a permit for the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion that would move Canadian oil from the oil sands of Alberta to British Colombia.  The GAIN Coalition applauds this decision by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government.  The expansion of Trans Mountain will mean more Canadian-produced oil is moved by pipeline, the safest and most environmentally friendly way to get petroleum goods to market.

Following is a statement that you can attribute to me, Craig Stevens, spokesman for the Coalition:

“In the face of opposition, Prime Minister Trudeau’s brave decision to unlock additional North American energy resources is a testament to the real-world need and benefit this energy has on North America and around the globe.  As economies continue to grow, so does the need for energy and energy resources.  It’s critical that countries that support democracy, peace, and opportunity continue to play a significant role in providing petroleum products to the global market.  If Canada and the U.S. decide to shut in their energy products, it would simply make our nations more reliant on foreign sources of oil, more susceptible to price spikes, and less secure.  By moving the Trans Mountain pipeline forward, Canada and North America will be able to harness the jobs, economic growth, and national security our countries need.”
