GAIN Coalition Supports Federal Legislation to Protect Energy Infrastructure
Sens. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) and Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) introduced legislation yesterday to bolster state-level planning to safeguard critical energy infrastructure. The Enhancing State Energy Security Planning and Emergency Preparedness Act would funnel money through the Department of Energy to states to develop energy security plans. These projects would fortify energy infrastructure across the country in the event of physical or cyber-attacks – making the electric grid more resilient in the process.
Following is a statement that you can attribute to me, Craig Stevens, spokesman for the GAIN Coalition:
“We commend Senators Gardner and Bennet for bringing attention to this important matter. In a time of heightened partisan rhetoric, it is encouraging to see strong bipartisan support working to safeguard American energy. Maintaining access to reliable, affordable energy should not be a political matter. As threats to the grid evolve – so must our responses. Protecting our energy infrastructure and promoting American energy security is key to economic growth and fueling our nation for generations to come. We encourage the Senate to promptly consider this paramount legislation.”
