National Experts Join Pennsylvania Panel Discussion on Marcellus Energy & Infrastructure Growth

CANONSBURG, Washington County (July 29, 2019) — National energy and infrastructure experts from the Grow America’s Infrastructure Now (GAIN) Coalition joined with stakeholders, community members, and elected officials to participate in a panel discussion this morning to highlight Pennsylvania’s thriving energy industry and the state’s important contributions to the United States’ record-breaking levels of natural gas production.

Hosted by the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, “Growing the Marcellus Shale: How Safe Pipeline Infrastructure Delivers Energy to Consumers in Pennsylvania and Allies Abroad” recognized Pennsylvania’s role as a top natural gas producer, its capacity to lower U.S. carbon emissions, the importance of pipeline safety, and the economic stimulus that energy exports provides for the United States. The panel featured GAIN Strategic Advisor and former Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Administrator Brigham McCown, GAIN Spokesman Craig Stevens, state Senator Camera Bartolotta, and former state Senator Earl Baker.

“Pennsylvania, home to the Marcellus and Utica shale fields, is playing an important role delivering both affordable power and significant economic opportunity to the Mid-Atlantic region,” said GAIN spokesman Craig Stevens. “The state’s thriving natural gas industry meets consumer energy needs while also generating direct benefits through high-skilled jobs, state and local tax revenue, cost savings, and community investment.”

“Rooted right here in Pennsylvania, shale development has transformed our country from a position of dependence on others to a leadership role on the global stage,” noted GAIN Strategic Advisor Brigham McCown. “Producing far more energy than we have in the past means that new energy highways are needed. Pennsylvania can continue to lead the way by investing in modern energy infrastructure to safely and efficiently deliver regionally sourced natural gas to American consumers.”
