GAIN Statement on Reports of Pres. Elect Biden’s Decision on Keystone XL
Reports are circulating that President-elect Biden will cancel the cross border permit required to complete the construction of the KeystoneXL pipeline as soon as the first day he’s in office, January 20. The pipeline has been a political football for years, eschewing sound science and smart energy policy in favor of short-term political favor from environmentalists.
Please find below a statement from me, Craig Stevens, spokesman for the GAIN Coalition and former senior advisor to U.S. Energy Secretary Sam Bodman:
“This decision, if true, will cost thousands of U.S. construction jobs, billions in economic activity, weaken U.S./Canadian relations, and ultimately make the world more reliant on energy from parts of the world that would do freedom and democracy harm. It will also have a chilling effect on infrastructure investment across the U.S.
“While environmentalists will undoubtedly cheer, the rest of the country will soon regret this Day One decision.”
