U.S. LNG Exports vital to global security
Recently, Guy Caruso wrote a Letter to the Editor of The Wall Street Journal in response to the publication’s editorial discussing how President Biden’s Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) export ban impacts Ukraine. The letter made the point that LNG exports allows our country to help our allies while meeting our energy goals, which aligned with the point the editorial board made that “liquified natural gas will play an essential role in Ukraine’s future as an independent nation”.
The Biden Administration should greenlight any project that will help Europe and the rest of the world break free from a dependence on Russian Energy. In addition, it is overlooked how natural gas and LNG reduces global emissions. In 2017, the Energy Department reported that when generating electricity, natural gas and LNG produce about half of the carbon emissions of electricity generated by coal, thus being an integral part in the transition to a “lower carbon future”.
While the Federal Regulatory Commission (FERC) completes the environmental review of LNG exports, it halts our energy projects and goals. After 11 months of the review process, “more than twice as long as a typical review,” FERC approved Venture Global LNG’s project. While delayed is better than never happening, the regulatory hold-ups and restrictions are causing major uncertainties, leading to foreign governments signing supply deals with Qatar and Russia. Expanding production of U.S. LNG allows our country to help our allies while meeting our energy goals.
Biden and climate activist Tik Tokers believe the LNG embargo is a great win, but now it is clear delaying the process only hurts the America’s energy goals and limits our abilities to aid foreign allies. .
