Statement: Doug Burgum Confirmed as Interior Secretary

The Senate has officially confirmed former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum for Secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior. Burgum was confirmed by a bipartisan vote of 79-18, following his testimony before the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee in mid-January.

Below is a statement that can be attributed to me, Craig Stevens, spokesman for the GAIN Coalition and former senior advisor to U.S. Energy Secretary Sam Bodman:

“The Grow Americas Infrastructure Now (GAIN) Coalition applauds the bipartisan vote to confirm former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum as Interior Secretary. In his role as Secretary, Doug Burgum will unleash American energy dominance, utilizing our vast land and water resources to create jobs, strengthen our economy, and make our nation and our allies more secure. As a successful businessman, he understands that leveraging our hundreds of millions of acres of land, and the oil and natural gas resources below, in an efficient and safe manner will pay dividends for our local economies, as well as the nation.

As Governor, Burgum was a champion of an all-of-the-above approach to energy policy, and we urge him to continue supporting America’s growing renewable energy build out. Secretary Burgum brings a proven track record of success to the Department of the Interior and will prioritize innovation over cumbersome regulation.

Secretary Burgum’s confirmation is another example that this administration is committed to common sense policies that will stimulate the economy and fortify our national security. I look forward to Secretary Burgum’s tenure as the head of the Interior Department.”
