Doug Burgum is Prioritizing Energy Independence in his Role as Secretary of the Interior

Doug Burgum has officially begun his tenure as the 55th Secretary of the Interior, marking a new chapter in the advancement of U.S. energy policy and land management. On his first day in office, Secretary Burgum signed six orders to strengthen American energy independence, streamline regulations, and reduce living costs for American families.

A top priority for Burgum is addressing the national energy emergency. With Secretary’s Order 3417, the Interior Department will ensure a reliable, diversified, and affordable energy supply by expediting domestic energy production, critical mineral development, and infrastructure projects. This will help minimize reliance on foreign energy sources while bolstering economic growth.

Additionally, Secretary’s Order 3418 centers around expanding energy exploration and production on federal lands and water, which will reinforce America’s position as a global energy leader. The order mandates the review of regulatory barriers hindering energy development and calls for restoring dominance in critical mineral processing. Reexamining regulatory obstacles to energy and mineral development will be a key driver for America’s energy sector, as overly burdensome red tape at the federal level has long delayed vital infrastructure projects.

Secretary’s Order 3419 is a response to the rising cost of living. The Department will identify policies contributing to high energy prices and take initiative to lower them. The administration seeks to relieve American families by supporting affordable energy solutions and rolling back restrictive climate policies. Secretary Burgum also took action on the Outer Continental Shelf, reversing oil and gas leasing bans, revitalizing Alaska’s resource development potential, and prioritizing President Trump’s deregulation agenda to eliminate bureaucracy.  As Burgum leads the Interior Department, his focus on responsible resource management, economic prosperity, and energy dominance will help shape the future of American energy policy.
