Statement: Secretaries Wright & Burgum Tout American Energy Dominance
Today, Energy Secretary Chris Wright and Interior Secretary Doug Burgum delivered remarks at Venture Global’s Plaquemines Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) export facility in Louisiana, the newest export facility to come online. The Department of Energy has taken three LNG-related actions in the past month, providing export approval to Commonwealth LNG, granting an LNG export permit extension for Golden Pass LNG and removing barriers for the use of LNG as marine fuel to power vessels. Even as the U.S. continues to lead the world in LNG exports, Americans enjoy some of the lowest residential natural gas prices in the world.
Below is a statement that can be attributed to me, Craig Stevens, spokesman for the GAIN Coalition and former senior advisor to U.S. Energy Secretary Sam Bodman:
“President Trump has made his agenda very clear: unleash American energy dominance. In his joint address to Congress, the President vowed to fight inflation by rapidly reducing the cost of energy, directing his Department of Energy to ‘go and get’ the liquid gold beneath our feet. Secretaries Wright and Burgum’s appearance in Plaquemines Parish, Louisiana is another example of this administration’s commitment to the energy supply chain and critical domestic infrastructure projects that create good-paying jobs for hard-working Americans.
There are still projects in different stages awaiting approval in the Gulf of America – such as Lake Charles LNG, Calcasieu Pass 2 and Port Arthur LNG – and it is my hope that the Department swiftly moves forward in granting these authorizations. Supporting the buildout of energy infrastructure projects in this country, whether it is export facilities, pipelines or power plants, will be critical to lowering energy costs across the board and fortifying our energy security. It is encouraging to see this administration reverse short-sighted actions, such as the LNG export pause, and spur capital investment in American projects.”
