GAIN Statement on Permitting Reform Status in the Lame Duck
This week, it was reported that Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) has been working with congressional leaders to secure passage of comprehensive energy permitting reform legislation in an end-of-year funding package. Text of the updated text has not yet been released publicly.
Below is a statement that can be attributed to me, Craig Stevens, spokesman for the GAIN Coalition:
“With a full plate of legislative activity slated for the lame duck session of the 117th Congress, it is encouraging to see lawmakers make another effort to pass comprehensive permitting reform legislation. With American energy policy remaining a top issue for the public, it is imperative we reform our nation’s burdensome environmental laws.
These obsolete laws have created hurdles that stymy infrastructure projects including key improvements to the U.S. energy network.
The bipartisan work led by Senator Joe Manchin would streamline the permitting and approval process for infrastructure projects while still maintaining core environmental protections. The GAIN Coalition looks forward to reviewing the updated legislative text when it is released.”
