Elon Musk Responds to the GAIN Coalition
Our second video illustrating the hypocrisy of climate change billionaires attracted the interest of Elon Musk, the CEO of both Tesla and Twitter. In response to our video and the caption, “Bill Gates says we need to change the way we do “almost everything” to fight climate change. So why won’t he stop flying private jets?” Musk responded, saying, “Not having a massive short position against Tesla would be a step in the right direction!”
Musk’s dig at Bill Gates refers to the Microsoft founder’s well-documented short position against Tesla stock, which has been the source of barbs between the billionaires. Multiple outlets online picked up the interaction, with the Business Telegraph in the UK writing, “The Tesla CEO pointed out that Gates’ Tesla short bet is contradictory to the latter’s desire to fight climate change and that he should be supporting the company’s EV initiatives.”
While Musk’s own usage of private jets is well known, he has also revolutionized electric vehicles in the United States, bringing climate-conscious decisions to the individual consumer. For Bill Gates to bet against the company suggests that he only sees his own investment preferences as the way to fight climate change.
