Congress Takes Action to Stop Biden’s LNG Ban

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Unlocking Our Domestic LNG Potential Act of 2024, which would block President Biden’s power to stall permitting for liquified natural gas (LNG) export projects. The bill, which received votes from both sides of the aisle, follows significant backlash from energy and national security experts.

Below is a statement that can be attributed to me, Craig Stevens, spokesman for the GAIN Coalition and former senior advisor to U.S. Energy Secretary Sam Bodman:

“President Biden has turned his Department of Energy (DOE) into an obstructionist mechanism to undermine American energy production. The bipartisan vote to pass the Unlocking our Domestic LNG Potential Act is a clear signal to President Biden that his decision to pause permits for LNG export projects is a bad policy that will further enrich hostile foreign nations.

Natural gas exports have been an American success story – bolstering our economy, creating jobs, and aiding our European allies when they were on the brink of an energy crisis. I applaud our U.S. Representatives for advancing this legislation and urge the Senate to pass it swiftly.”
