GAIN Welcomes Minnesota Court Ruling on Line 3 Permit

Earlier today, a Minnesota Court of Appeals ruled that the state government acted appropriately in granting its permit to Enbridge for Line 3. The judicial panel agreed that the state commission acted within its authority and that replacing the line would have climate benefits by using less power than the existing line while reducing the need for truck and train deliveries.

Below is a statement that can be attributed to me, Craig Stevens, spokesman for the GAIN Coalition:

“Today’s Minnesota Appeals Court decision is another win for common sense, the rule of law, and regulatory certainty. The opponents of North American energy development continue to fight pipelines at every turn, so it’s important that regulators and the judiciary follow the underlying laws that allow for well devised and constructed pipelines to operate. Oil and natural gas are the lifeblood of our nation’s economy – and a growing economy will continue to need energy resources,  if not from the U.S. and Canada then from Russia, Venezuela, and Iran.”
